Ben Howlett - PGA Golf Professional

Greenmount is a great family golf club and I am proud to have been able to learn how to play the game there since the age of 10. You always receive a friendly reception and you are guaranteed to have an enjoyable game of golf on this picturesque course.

I was a member at the golf club from the age of 10, until I turned professional aged 18. I have remained attached to Greenmount Golf Club since turning Professional and have been heavily involved in the development of the junior players at the club.

I began my PGA training aged 18 being based at Bolton Old Links. The training took four years and I became fully qualified aged 22. I received a distinction in golf coaching and qualified in the top 10 trainees in my year. Over the six years I have been a Professional golfer I have competed on the European Tour, Challenge Tour, EPD Tour and EuroPro Tour. During the past two years I have been working with Nick Bradley who worked along side David Leadbetter. For several years he has coached many European Tour players such as Justin Rose and Brad Faxon. Over these two years I have been able to improve and develop my teaching skills.

Free Lesson - The Grip

Ben Howlett PGA Golf ProfessionalOne of the most important parts of the golf swing is the grip. A poor grip can cause numerous swing faults so a good grip is crucial in any player’s golf development.

For example, a strong grip will cause the club face to be closed at impact if the player swings the club correctly. This closed club face will lead to many other swing faults as the player tries to fight the clubface through impact. The more a player continues with this one fault the more compounded it becomes and increases the likelihood of major swing faults. So it is important to ensure that every player from a beginner to an experienced player wishing to improve has regular lessons with a PGA qualified golf professional.

The picture shows a good setup for a 8 iron shot and a neutral grip.
